Job Bias Charges Jump

According to the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission, job bias charges in 2008 hit an unprecedented 94,402, a 15 percent increase over the previous fiscal year.

Do you think that is more the result of increased racial/gender bias or increased tendency to play the race/gender card, perhaps because of the bad economy?

  1. Perhaps the economy exponentiates racial bias even more?

    I write to you from Silicon Valley. I remember a time when any starving garage owner could make it. Didn't matter if you were a starving white guy like Apple's Steve Wozniak who can't dance, or the Asian immigrant who formed the blue/white Linksys that got bought by Cisco.

    Now instead, what I'm seeing is that more and more minorities are leading and managing IT groups. In particular, I am seeing Indian and Chinese as directors and 1st level supervisors.

    If a white person prefers white employees, that's labeled as racist. Is it also a shade of racism when an Indian manager staffs his department of mostly Indians, the penumbra of brown? Or an Asian manager extends more job offers to Asians, the rays of yellow?

    I write this from the equal opportunities of the RGB (not KGB). Yes, those rainbow polychromatic red-green-blue pixels that unite you, me, future readers and the global community also occupied by the newly formed outsourcerers. (Don't be fooled by their domestic agents!)
