On my NPR-San Francisco radio show today, I moderated a debate on the topic: Are diverse workplaces better? The debaters were both excellent and despite the issue's incendiary nature, shed much light and no undue heat. It was much more intelligent, respectful, and honest than most debates on such an incendiary subject.
I believe this debate represents a model for what President Obama, Attorney General Holder, and former President Clinton were hoping for when they called for an honest discussion of race in America.
HERE is the link to the audio of that debate.
Someone made a comment--insultingly rendered--so I didn't post it, saying that my NPR-San Francisco show is not an NPR show. Indeed it is. Here's a link to its archive on the NPR website: http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast/podcast_detail.php?siteId=89697149.
ReplyDeletePerhaps he thought that KQED is the only NPR affiliate in the San Francisco Bay Area. KALW-FM, where my show originates, is indeed, also an NPR affiliate, running the major NPR shows: Morning Edition, Fresh Air, All Things Considered, This American Life, as well as my show, Work with Marty Nemko, now in its 20th year on that station.
I'm not sure this is accurate. NPR may have a link to your show on their RSS feed, but KALW is a local station first and foremost. They are an NPR affiliate, but they are not owned by NPR - they are actually part of the San Francisco Unified School District. (I love hearing the school lunch menu on KALW in the morning!)
ReplyDeleteAs I understand it, shows produced by an affiliate are the shows of the affiliate, not of NPR; they can be syndicated via PRI, NPR or other syndicators in which case the shows are accurately described as PRI shows, NPR shows etc.
Is your show syndicated into other markets other than via the podcast?
The link isn't working for me. It just cancels out. Too bad - I really wanted to hear it!
ReplyDeleteIt works on my computer. Sorry, Dave.
ReplyDeleteI must admit to being curious why Anonymous feels it's worth spending so much time trying to parse precisely how NPR my show is. It's accurate as stated, it's on an NPR affiliate in San Francisco. The fact that the license is held by the San Francisco Unified School District is irrelevant. The licenses of NPR affiliates are owned by all sorts of entities.
ReplyDelete"Work with Marty Nemko" is technically syndicated although it only airs two markets: San Francisco and Napa (KVON-1440 AM).
My other show, "The Marty Nemko Program" is heard on KGO-AM, the ABC affiliate in San Francisco.
That's it. We both have better things to do with our time than to further parse this.
