I don't know how everybody else feels about it, but to me I think Hispanic people in this country, legally or illegally, made a huge public relations mistake with their recent demonstrations.
I don't blame anybody in the world for wanting to come to the
But when the first thing you do when you set foot on American soil is illegal, it is flat out wrong, and I don't care how many lala land left heads come out of the woodwork and start trying to give me sensitivity lessons.
I don't need sensitivity lessons, in fact I don't have any-thing against Mexicans! I just have something against criminals and anybody who comes into this country illegally is a criminal, and if you don't believe it try coming into America from a foreign country without a passport and see how far you get. What disturbs me about the demonstrations is that it's tantamount to saying, "I am going to come into your country even if it means breaking your laws and there's nothing you can do about it."
It's an "in your face" action and speaking just for me, I don't like it one little bit and if there were a half dozen pairs of gonads in
Where are you, you bunch of lily-livered, pantywaist, forked-tongued, sorry excuses for defenders of The Constitution? Have you been drinking the water out of the
And even if you pass a bill on immigration, it will probably be so pork laden and watered down that it won't mean anything anyway! Besides, what good is another law going to do when you won't enforce the ones on the books now?
And what ever happened to the polls, guys? I thought you folks were the quintessential finger-wetters. Well, you sure ain't paying any attention to the polls this time because somewhere around eighty percent of Americans want something done about this mess, and mess it is, and getting bigger everyday.
This is no longer a problem, it is a dilemma and headed for being a tragedy. Do you honestly think that what happened in
If you, Mr. President, Congressmen and Senators, knuckle under on this and refuse to do something meaningful, it means that you care nothing for the kind of country your children and grandchildren will inherit. But I guess that doesn't matter as long as you get re-elected.
Shame on you.
One of the big problems in America today is that if you have the nerve to say anything derogatory about any group of people (except Christians), you are going to be screamed at by the media and called a racist, a bigot and anything else they can think of to call you.
Well, I've been pounded by the media before, and I'm still rockin' and rollin', and when it comes to speaking the truth, I fear not.
And the truth is that the gutless, gonadless, milksop politicians are just about to sell out the United States of America because they don't have the intestinal fortitude to stand up to face reality.
And reality is that we would never allow any other group of people to have 12 million illegals in this country and turn around and say, "Oh it's ok, ya'll can stay here if you'll just allow us to slap your wrist."
And I know that some of you who read this column are saying "Well what's wrong with that?" I'll tell you what's wrong with it. These people could be from Mars as far as we know. We don't know who they are, where they are, or what they're up to, and the way the Congress is going, we're not going to.
Does this make sense? Labor force you say? We already subsidize corporate agriculture as it is, must we subsidize their labor as well?
If these people were from
I think not.
All the media shows us are pictures of hard-working Hispanics who have crossed the border just to try to better their life. They don't show you pictures of the Feds rounding up members of MS-13, the violent gang who came across the same way the decent folks did. They don't tell you about the living conditions of the Mexican illegal some fat cat hired to pick his crop.
I want to make two predictions.
No. 1: This situation is going to grow and fester until it erupts in violence on our streets while the wimps in
No 2: Somebody is going to cross that border with some kind of weapon of mass destruction and set it off in a major American city, after which there will be a backlash such as this country has never experienced, and the Capitol building in Washington will probably tilt as Congressmen and Senators rush to the other side of the issue.
I don't know about you, but I would love to see just one major politician stand up and say, "I don't care who I make mad, and I don't care how many votes I lose, this is a desperate situation and I'm going to lead the fight to get it straightened out."
I don't blame anybody for wanting to come to
And by the way, this is
Charlie Daniels
I think the vast majority of ordinary citizens in this country agree with Mr. Daniels remarks. I know I do. I have nothing against legal immigration. My grandparents came to this country from Mexico and they came legally. I do object to people of any nationality disrespecting our borders.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this Marty.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved Charlie Daniels music, now I love the man. When Carter was President we had a 100 year flood in Central Arizona which closed the airport, tore down bridges and major roads, etc. As Senate Press Secretary I flew over the devestated area taking pictures which a Legislative delegation personally delivered to President Carter, who had stated publicly that he did not believe it could flood in a desert. It was only then that he approved Federal Disaster aid. Now another Democratic President refuses to believe that illegal aliens are bankrupting school budgets, city services, health care. Why doesn't he come camp out in Douglas where the rancher was recently murdered and see how "safe" it is? After World War I Greece and Turkey had 1.3 million "undocumented" citizens that needed to be returned to their country of origin. This was accomplished peacefully in 14 months (and this was before computers or any of the modern "tools" we have at our disposal now). If this could be accomplished in 1924 between Greece and Turkey, we can "repatriate" the 12 million illegals living in the United States back to their countries of origin in the same period of time. Common sense, it's what is lacking on the Beltway and in the White House.
ReplyDeleteHear, hear! And as Marty has suggested, an effective physical barrier is a good place to start. If they can put a man on the moon, why can't they put up a real wall that will keep people out? They can; they just don't have the political will because they are not listening to the people of the U.S. I didn't know about the repatriation after WWI, Boomersong -- thanks for adding that. Sounds like a good idea to me.
ReplyDeleteLiberals look the other way because they see illegal immigrants as more clients for social services. Plus, liberals are generally opposed to the idea of America being a predominately white, European-based country, and anything that makes America less white and European is OK to them.
ReplyDeleteConservatives look the other way because illegal immigrants represent a vast pool of cheap compliant labor, not to mention a market for goods and services in an economy where quantity is more a measure of success than quality.
As for the moderate majority, well, those folks are affected most by this issue yet have the least influence to bring about a change or make their voices heard.
On a related note, I never bought the line of reasoning behind the assertion that illegal immigration is needed to shore up Social Security...the reason why so many people are so hot to hire illegal immigrants is that they avoid paying payroll taxes. Plus, these immigrants will be collecting without having paid into the system.
Just my 2 cents.
"Facing one's mortality makes many people decide to be more honest, even if it offends some people."
ReplyDeleteMarty, you've said a lot on his blog and on the radio. Is there anything you haven't said yet that you're afraid to say, for fear of offense or retaliation?
I greatly appreciate Mr. Daniels' honest comments. It makes me wish I knew him personally, whether I agreed with him or not.
This is one blogger's take on what happened at those demonstrations.
ReplyDeleteAs a Southern Californian whose grandparents (both sets) came to this country legally, via much personal hardship (one grandmother died while at Ellis Island), I heartily agree. And I applaud both Mr. Daniels as well as you, Marty, for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteI'm voting for Steve Poizner in the Calif. gubernatorial election, as he's been very vocal about working to stop illegal immigrants' access to free government services (ie schooling, medical, etc.). Unfortunately, he doesn't appear to be ahead in the polls right now - but we'll see.
Nancy
I do not believe that even the most expert and benevolent white person can be fully honest about race without committing career suicide.
ReplyDeleteWow.. Can't wait to speak to him further about this subject when he comes to play the Belleayre Music Festival in the beautiful Catskills!
ReplyDeleteThe state of Oklahoma is nicknamed the "Sooner State."
ReplyDeleteWhat's a Sooner? Historically they were squatters that left the United States for the Unassigned Lands of what is now (but was not then) Oklahoma. They were illegal immigrants and caused big trouble for legal immigrants (i.e. taxpayers) but these days no-one thinks of them that way. Now "Sooner" means OU football!
No matter how you get here, if you stick around long enough you just might get a sports team named after you!
Telling illegal aliens to go back home and return to America the legal way is considered racist by many.
ReplyDeleteAnd to many of the same people, this, from a "journalist," is NOT racist. Go figure.
