My Radio Program, Work with Marty Nemko is Being Cancelled

I am sad to report that the station manager is removing my career-advice NPR-San Francisco program Work with Marty Nemko. It is being replaced by one-off shows by the station's trainees. I have two shows left, one next Thurs and one tonight, with my wife Barbara Nemko: a debate: Is work-life balance always worth striving for?  Plus you can call in for a Workover: 415-841-4134, 7 PM 91.7 in San Francisco or KALW.org.

Is There a Topic You'd Like to Hear My Wife and I Debate?

My listeners like when I debate my wife during my radio show. Is there a career- or work-related topic you'd like to see us debate?

Thoughts on How to Improve My KALW-FM Show

Losing my KGO show has motivated me to look afresh at my KALW-FM (NPR-San Francisco) show.

Half the show has been three-minute career makeovers on callers. Candidly, in our jobless recovery, I'm feeling less confident that my advice will turn out to be helpful, so I'm inclined to cut back on the time I devote to three-minute career makeovers.

I most enjoy, and thus perhaps my listeners most enjoy, aspects of the show that I've heretofore devoted less time to :
  • Conversations with leading public intellectuals about how to improve the world.
  • Expanding on my tweets, which are my best thoughts of the week.
  • Doing take-both-sides debates: A guest or I present best arguments for one side, then best arguments for the other side, and finally opine on which side is stronger. I also like a variation of that: My wife, Dr. Barbara Nemko and I debate a topic for 20 minutes. For the next 20 minutes, we switch sides. Then we discuss which side we think is stronger.
What do you think?

Thanks for reading my blog

I thought you might like to know that you have lots of company. Although I only started blogging on March 24, and started with virtually no visitors, now, this blog gets 10,000 page views per month. I do appreciate your interest in what I have to say.

While I'm being personal, a few readers have asked about my wife. She's Dr. Barbara Nemko, the Napa County Superintendent of Schools, and 2004-05 Greater Bay Area Superintendent of the Year. She's my frequent co-host on my NPR-San Francisco radio show, Work with Marty Nemko. Here's her picture. Obviously, she's a lot better looking that I am.
