You're Invited to a Free Concert I'll be Giving

On Jan. 29 at 8 pm, I'll be giving a free piano concert at my Oakland, CA home. I'll play Broadway show medleys from My Fair Lady to Les Miserables, as well as old standards from My Funny Valentine to McArthur Park, plus some ragtime, two things I wrote, and I'll sing two or three Tom Lehrer songs.

My wonderful (and non-allergenic) dog Einstein will be there to greet you.

Space is very limited so RSVP at mnemko@comcast.net and I'll let you know if space is still available and if so, I'll email you directions to my home.

Update: HERE is the video of the concert. (Yes, I did get a standing ovation.)

Interesting, Marty! I don't recall ever seeing a blog post like this, but I like it.

May I ask your motivation for doing this?

My motivation is the same as my motivation for all my writing, and radio shows: using my best skills for an altruistic purpose. My concert won't change the world but it will give people pleasure (I hope!) with no negative side effects. Also, ten years ago, I developed a hand condition which turned me from a regular 10-fingered pianist into a seven-fingered one. I hope it will be inspiring for people to see how one can adapt to a handicap.

What a lovely thing to do. I only wish we lived closer; this is the sort of thing my husband and I love doing.

Before we moved across the country this past summer, some close friends of ours, gifted songwriters, put on a little mini concert in their home for us. We both sat in tears...overwhelmed by their beautiful gift of music. I will never forget it.

Marty, I won't be attending your recital but I admire your courage. Make sure you tell everybody to turn off their cell phones.

Marty,

I enjoyed the picture, but did you you ever consider that Einstein may resent your showing his private parts? I understand your pride, but still...

Would that I could, Marty.

Knock'em dead.

Will Mrs.Barbara Nemko also be attending? I enjoy listening to her on your radio program.

Thank you for opening your home to us.

She will be out of town that night. Frankly, that's the reason I decided to do the concert. With her gone, I asked myself, "Should I rent a video or...play a concert?" I thought the latter would be more fun.

Speaking of video, could you post one of the concert for those of us who can't come?

I'm working on it, Anonymous. I do hope to video it and post it on this blog.
