Would the campaign be open to anybody qualified running, or would there still be a selection process representing parties? I don't mind having several people to choose from, but it shouldn't be a free-for-all like California's governor recall election from 2003.
Yes, there would be parties. And the candidates selected to participate in the two-week publicly funded campaign would be selected by neutrals such as C-Span or Consumer Reports and--as in the status quo system for selecting who gets to debate--a representative from a government elections commission and from the media.
