My Psychology Today article today is for the person who has spent some time in an organization and decided it’s time to retire: for health reasons, fatigue of the accelerating BS, or the altruistic sense that it’s a younger person’s turn, someone who could probably do more good.

"S/he's Deadwood!" : Countering fear of being chopped away.

If you’ve been employed at the same place for a long time and especially if you’re looking forward to retirement, you may be perceived as deadwood. That’s dangerous because deadwood often gets chopped away before you’re ready to be cut loose from the mother ship. And if you worry that you are deadwood, it suggests that you’re burned out.
